About
'Young People and Active Journeys' was a project initially funded by the Yorkshire Sport Foundation in 2021, supported by Leeds City Council.
We worked with the council and three local organisations to develop a 'toolkit' that could be used to gather young people's experiences of their communities to help inform decision making about active and sustainable forms of travel.
In the summer of 2022 we worked intensively with a group of young people at the Kentmere Community Centre, who tested and helped shape the toolkit, as well as create some change in their communities. We were also well supported with two Laidlaw Scholars, who acted as research assistants with us and documented the process.
In 2024 we received an ESRC IAA grant to develop 'impact' from our work. For this we asked youth workers from Hartlepool to use our toolkit and feedback any changes, and how it had been adapted. This allowed us to create our final version of the toolkit following their experiences.
